Craniosacral Therapy
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that focuses on the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and fluids surrounding the brain and spinal cord. By using light touch, therapists help release tension and improve the functioning of the central nervous system, promoting overall health and well-being.
What to Expect in a Session
The session takes place while lying full clothed on a treatment table. Most people find the session to be very relaxing and restful. The practitioner assesses the craniosacral rhythm and applies subtle indirect manipulations to release restrictions and stimulate the bodies intrinsic healing mechanism.
Craniosacral Therapy may be beneficial for a wide range of physical, emotional, and stress-related concerns, including:
- Stress and anxiety
- Headaches and migraines
- Neck and back pain
- Jaw tension and TMJ dysfunction
- Chronic pain and fatigue
- Nervous system dysregulation
- Sleep disturbances
- Post-concussion symptoms
- Emotional tension or trauma recovery
- Support during times of transition or healing
Is Craniosacral Therapy safe?
Yes. CST is considered very gentle and safe for people of all ages, including children and older adults. It is non-invasive and does not involve forceful manipulation.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your goals and individual needs. Some people notice benefits after one session, while others find a series of sessions provides deeper and longer-lasting results. Most commonly, six weekly sessions are recommended initially, followed by sessions spaced farther apart.
What might I feel during or after a session?
People report a wide range of sensations, including deep relaxation, warmth, gentle movement, emotional release, or simply a sense of calm. After a session, you may feel more grounded, rested, or aware of subtle changes in your body. It may take 24 hours to feel the full effect.
Do I need to do anything to prepare?
No special preparation is required. It is recommended to stay well hydrated before and after your session.
